Funny lady Molly Shannon, currently making her Broadway debut as boozy floozy Marge MacDougall in the hit musical Promises, Promises, could be the next star on HBO’s original programming line-up. According to Deadline.com, the cable network is putting into development a new comedy featuring Shannon as a nun who decides to leave the convent.
According to the report, her character will confront the outside world as “an utterly innocent woman in her early 40s who has never had sex and has to discover the modern world in all its tawdriness.” Series creator Tim Long (The Simpsons) describes the show as “James Joyce meets Judd Apatow.”
Fans of Shannon’s work in Promises, Promises will be happy to hear that the show will also showcase her singing talents.
Shannon will appear in Promises, Promises until the musical’s final performance at the Broadway Theatre on January 2, 2011.
